This is a petition to get some much needed help for abandoned animals in the streets of Portugal! there is a great need for awareness and education about spaying and neutering and just plain compassion about these suffering animals! way too many times people will just leave them tied to a roadside fence so that they won't follow them home, and then these poor animals are unable to get to any kind of food or water and they wait endlessly for their "owners" to come back which of course they never do! It's very sad to see these poor animals rome aimlessly, dazed, scared and starving, many times they get hit by cars and no one bothers to stop or hlep them and there are no shelters at all, or any kind of animal welfare laws!....NOTHING to protect them at all!this petition is an effort to put an end to so much suffering and try to get a shelter built! Portugal is a BEAUTIFUL country with great people but when it comes to animals it's SHAMEFUL SHAMEFUL SHAMEFUL! First off, the laws don't offer any kind of protection to animals. It's not just about abandoned animals. There are many animals being beaten up and neglected by their owners and NO ONE CAN DO ANYTHING. Animals are seen as private property so as long and they're your property you can do anything you want with them. I CAN KILL ALL MY DOGS AND CATS and get away with it even if everyone sees it, and they can't do anything either because it's my property and I do whatever I want with my property. The other problem is people education. I remember in school being taught about respecting other people, other races, disabled people, poor people, the environment, not dumping trash on the ground, a lot of stuff but about ANIMALS? Nothing. They don't make it clear that animals deserve respect. People don't believe that in here. They see animals as toys, conveniences, companions, fun not LIVING BEINGS who deserve the same respect as humans.
Já tudo foi dito à cerca deste pobres animais, já muito foi discutido, muito foi falado, mas no entanto eles continuam esquecidos, esquecidos do povo, dos politicos, da comunicacãoo social... tantos temas que são capa de jornal e abertura de telejornais que não têm metadeda urgência deste e no entanto cativam a opinião publica... que mais será necessário fazer para sensibilizar este país de parcos costumes... refugiam-se em mentalidades terceiro mundistas e escondem-se atrás de um suposto desenvolvimento mascarado de crueldade... enquanto se discute, se esquece ou se tenta esquecer para não incomodar, centenas de vidas sofrem nas ruas por trás de um olhar de suplica e tristza... que mais será necessário fazer... tudo!!!

Nos, os abaixo assinados, respeitosamente, pedimos-lhe, Senhor Presidente Ribau Esteves para ajudar os muitos gatos e caes que sao abandonados, sofrendo e vivendo nas ruas de seu municipio e do seu pais. Voce tem feito um trabalho tao grande para embelezar as ruas e bairros, mas quase nada sobre este assunto muito triste! e muito importante educar os seus constituintes e votadores a esterilizar os seus gatos e caes num esforsso para tentar acabar de criar tantas vidas indesejadas! uma parte tao triste deste pais e tem que acabar! Sabemos que o senhor e muito amado e um bom presidente desta comunidade e seria um bom lider em educar os residentes em como ter compaixao e ser bom amigo do animal de estimacao, esterilizando os seus animais e mantelos dentro de casa como parte da familia e nao os deixar andar por as ruas aonde sao atropelados por carros e maltratados (os amigos nao prendem os amigos a cadeados e nao os abandonao) isto e muito importante! o senhor tem o poder, o senhor pode construir um bom abrigo, seguro e humano para esses pobres animais infelizes e certifique-se em como sao cuidados e bem tratados com as necessidades basicas que todos nos precisamos, tal como alimento, abrigo, amor e compaixao! estas pobres creaturas nao precisao nem mais nem menos do que nos todos! Obter as companhias de alimento do animal de estimacao para doar comida, as pessoas que podem para doar dinheiro por arrecadacao de fundos, veternarios a doar uma hora (ou duas ou trez) por semana dos seus servicos e os moradores a doar coisas que ja nao precisao, tais como cobertores, toalhas ou qualquer coisa que possao pagar! Isto tudo esta possivel, pode ser feito, e nao encontramos melhor pessoa para o fazer! contamos com o Sehnor Presidente Ribau Esteves!!!

We the undersigned, respectfully ask you, Senhor Presidente Ribau Esteves to please help the many cats and dogs that are abandoned, suffering and living on the streets of your Municipality and country. You have done such great work to beautify the roads and neighborhoods but close to nothing about this very important and sad issue! It is very important to educate your constituents to spay and neuter their cats and dogs in an effort to stop creating so many unwanted lives! this is such a sad part of this country and it has to end! we know that you are a much loved and good President of this community and would be a good leader in educating the residents in how to be compassionate and be good pet owners, this is very important!!! You have the power, you can build a good safe and humane shelter for these poor unfortunate animals and make sure they are cared for and treated with compassion and with the basic needs we all have, shelter food and love! get pet food companies to donate food, get people to donate money by fundraising and residents to donate unwanted items such as un-needed blankets, towels or anything they can afford! is it possible, it can be done, it just as to start somewhere with someone like you!!
And PLEASE an incinerator is NOT the answer!!!
